(Heterodontus francisci)

Distribution: Gulf of California, Mexico, north to Central California; rarely north of Point Conception. A small bottom shark (maximum length reported is 38 inches long or 96 cm is primarily nocturnal. Prefers rocky areas, in crevices and caves; also sandy patches and kelp beds, usually in water 8-35 ft deep (2.4-11 m). Feeds on fishes and invertebrates, such as sea urchins, crabs, squid. Lays spiral-shaped egg cases.
