Created by the Guardians of the Universe, this group of androids, called Manhunters, was designed to bring protection and order to the universe. The Green Lantern Corp took over the duties of the Manhunters due to imperfections found in their programming that prevented them from performing certain tasks.

They became jealous of the Green Lantern Corp and programmed themselves to attack Oa, the home planet of the Guardians. They managed to lure the Guardians away from Oa by putting John Stewart, a Green Lantern, on trial. The Manhunters then attempted to take control of the Power Battery on Oa, but their efforts were stopped by several Green Lanterns and the Justice League.
